Day-trading software can produce large CSV exports, while related parameters and calculations may be maintained in Excel. The source describes a workflow in which distributing files to users risked exposing proprietary formulas and calculations. There was also no centralized dashboard for filtering and reviewing the data.
The Operational Challenge
We converted the workflow into a web application. CSV data was managed through a SQL database and presented to application users in a dashboard with the required filters.
Implementation & Workflow
The important change was the separation of data storage and presentation from the source files. Instead of repeatedly sharing large exports and spreadsheets, users could access a centralized view of the data through the application.
A similar project should start by identifying the CSV formats, file sizes, parameter relationships, refresh frequency, and filters users need. It should also define which calculations are intended to remain private and which results should be visible.
Key Takeaways & Evaluation
The source does not provide quantified performance improvements or the exact SQL platform, so no such claims are made here.
If your team distributes large CSV files and supporting spreadsheets to multiple users, a database-backed dashboard may provide a more controlled way to explore the data.
