Loan files required a coordinated process across multiple responsibilities
A mortgage investment lending organization used a standalone Excel-based workflow to manage loan files. Each file moved through a sequence of stages, from application and prequalification to completion, approval, finalization, and closure. Different team members were responsible for specific activities, and work was tracked through task and needs lists.
The challenge was to make the process accessible as a shared workflow rather than a spreadsheet-based tool.
A centralized loan processing application
We converted the Excel-based workflow into a web application backed by a centralized database. The source identifies personalized dashboards, support for multiple locations and branches, and integration with Encompass.
The application organized loan files and the tasks associated with them. This gave the team a shared workflow for following responsibilities and outstanding needs through the loan lifecycle.
What the design needed to preserve
Converting a loan process is not just a matter of reproducing spreadsheet columns on a web page. The underlying stages, responsibilities, task lists, required information, and closure conditions need to remain clear. The system also needs to reflect how branches and team members work together.
The source does not provide quantified improvements in processing time or loan volume, so this case study does not claim them. The documented change is the move from a standalone Excel process to a centralized web workflow with multi-branch support and an Encompass integration.
If loan files are coordinated through spreadsheets and separate task lists, mapping the lifecycle and responsibility handoffs is a practical first step toward a shared loan processing application.
